Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is an electrical problem, primarily caused by heart rhythm disorders (tachycardia, bradycardia). It is distinct from myocardial infarct (MI), which is a “plumbing” problem.

Nearly 1,000 people die from sudden cardiac arrest each day in the U.S. alone.

SCA is a leading cause of death among adults over the age of 40 in the United States and other countries.

In the United States alone, approximately 250,000 people die every year from SCA, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In fact, more people die each year from SCA than from colorectal cancer, breast cancer, prostate cancer, motor vehicle accidents, AIDS, firearms, and house fires combined.

SCA is a life threatening condition that can be treated successfully through early intervention.

These appalling figures are mainly due to the fact that, in contrast to other diseases which leave time for medical intervention, SCA occurs suddenly (as its name indicates) and survival is only possible if the patient receives immediate emergency help – Mainly - Defibrillation
